Fishwick Papers: The "Splash Zone" Edition

Goooooooood afternoon paperitinas!Hope this finds you well on a lovely (if slightly too hot) Melbourne Summer day. It's been my first week back at work work at ACMI, and it's been great to put gears in motion for a new year, and tick off some of the to-do list items that had been hanging over me. I'm doing some cool work at the moment that involves contacting some cool game design studios and asking if they want to work with us on the Big New ACMI Exhibition, and they're saying yes and it's a neat way to kick off the year.I've also spent this afternoon working as a visitor services officer (VSO) - one of the front of house people who's in a museum to tell you where things are and have a chat. ACMI has a new policy that every employee does a half-day working as a VSO in the actual exhibitions. I won't get too into the weeds of museum organisational politics, but basically: this is great. A lot of museum people (myself included) can spend so much time at desks in offices working on spreadsheets that we forget the day-to-day practicalities and realities of what a museum's actually like for a museum visitor.Anyway, thank you for subscribing and reading. You can send your friends to tinyletter.com/fimjishwick to subscribe, where you'll also find an archive of every past Fishwick Paper.Have a great weekend,Much love to you and yours, jim x

*the original headline I saw for this article on Slate's homepage was "Not 2 Down With The Times" which I think is SPECTACULAR, and would have put here but I didn't want to falsely claim credit for it.
